Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) has teamed up with television personality and car enthusiast Jay Leno to advocate for Senate Bill 712, known as Leno’s Law. The proposed legislation aims to exempt classic cars that are 35 years or older from the state's biennial smog check program. The bill enjoys bipartisan support, including backing from Senator Cortese (D-Silicon Valley), the chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, who serves as a co-author.

The bill is scheduled for a hearing on April 8th at 1:30 PM. Preceding the event, Senator Grove, Leno, who sponsors SB 712, and numerous car enthusiasts plan a demonstration near the State Capitol. The gathering will culminate in a press conference at 11:30 AM. Attendees can view classic cars on display on 10th Street between N and L Streets.

Those participating in the rally include TV icon Jay Leno, SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola, California Automobile Museum’s Karen McClaflin, and Francine Mata, President of The Low Riders Commission. The event's schedule begins with a classic car cruise meeting at 10:30 AM, followed by a press conference and the legislative hearing.
