Senator Shannon Grove’s Senate Bill 1414 (SB 1414) has passed the Assembly Floor and is now moving to the Senate for a final vote. The bill aims to address the crime of sex trafficking by increasing penalties for those who purchase children for sex.

Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) commented on the progress of the bill:

“SB 1414 has passed the Assembly and is moving to the Senate to concur in amendments. I am beyond grateful this bill will charge predators who purchase children under the age of 15 for sex with a felony. While I am disappointed that 16 and 17-year-olds are not given the same protections as younger children, I am pleased that we are making a change in the law to protect thousands of victims. I will never stop fighting to protect all children from those who seek to harm them.”

The bill will move to the Senate Floor for a full concurrence vote by midnight tomorrow, August 31.
