WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 30, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement on the Supreme Court decision on the Biden-Harris Administration’s student loan debt forgiveness plan.
“Today’s rulings inflict devastating hardships on the millions of students and young adults who suffer under the crushing weight of student debt,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “I believe in the power of education, and higher education must be within the reach of every qualified student. The Administration’s plan would have made a significant impact on the lives of millions—particularly for those who pursued higher education on the promise that Pell Grants would help pay the way. This relief would have provided new opportunities for millions of working-class Americans to pursue higher education, buy a house, start a small business, and begin their lives without significant debt hampering their abilities to make the best choices for themselves and their communities.”
“Today, conservative justices on the Supreme Court made it more difficult for millions of young Americans to pursue their dreams and thrive in our country. I will continue to work hard for all people to pursue higher education without the fear of crushing and unreasonable financial burdens.”
