Sacramento State University Athletics issued the following announcement on Nov 12.
The Sacramento State women's golf team has signed Tara Raj and Caitlin Maurice to National Letters of Intent, it was announced today. The pair will enroll as freshmen at the University in the fall of 2021.
Raj and Maurice, who are both residents of New Zealand, have impressive resumés which feature tournament victories and international competition.
"I began recruiting both Tara and Caitlin well before the Coronavirus altered so drastically everything to do with NCAA athletics," Sacramento State head coach David Sutherland said. "Through this time, they have both remained remarkably committed to being a part of our program here in Sacramento. They are each substantial recruits with deep resumés of high-level golf. Both are wonderful young women and good friends, and we feel very fortunate to have them be a part of our women's golf program."
Raj finished second at the New Zealand Ladies Stroke Play in 2020 after shooting 69-70-139. She advanced to the New Zealand Ladies Match Play where she was also the runner-up. The Wanganui, New Zealand native also finished second at the North Island U-19 tournament with scores of 69-72-68-209. In 2019, she was the medalist at the Ruth Middleton Classic (71-71-68-210) and the Waikato Stroke Play (72-69-70-70-281).
Maurice, a native of Omokoroa, New Zealand, had three top five finishes in 2020, including a win at the Pegaus Open where she recorded rounds of 72-73-71-70-286. She was also second at the North Island Stroke Play and was fourth at the New Zealand U-19 (74-65-70-209). Maurice was third at the North Island Stroke Play in 2019 after shooting 72-73-65-75-286.
The pair will join a program which has won seven tournaments over the last three years and has finished among the top two at the last six Big Sky Championships.
