Rep. Doris Matsui, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California's 7th district, shared her thoughts on various issues through a series of tweets in February 2025. Her comments addressed topics such as the justice system, Black History Month, and environmental standards.
On February 13, 2025, Rep. Matsui emphasized the importance of the judicial branch as one of three co-equal branches of government. She stated that "Our judicial branch is one of three co-equal branches of government. The justice system is not an obstacle the President can choose to remove." Furthermore, she highlighted that "In America, no one is above the law," calling for the Department of Justice to uphold its constitutional duty rather than enabling former President Trump and his loyalists.
Later that day, Rep. Matsui acknowledged Black History Month by celebrating the contributions of Black Americans to American society. She tweeted "During #BlackHistoryMonth, we celebrate the countless contributions that Black Americans have made and continue to make that are foundationally woven into the fabric of America." She also mentioned uplifting powerful voices within the Black community and honoring their vital roles.
On February 14, 2025, Rep. Matsui criticized attempts by the Trump Administration to roll back vehicle pollution and fuel efficiency standards. She asserted that "The Trump Administration is trying to drag this country back to the 1970s by gutting our vehicle pollution and fuel efficiency standards—but America isn’t going back." In response, she announced her reintroduction of the Vehicle Energy Performance Act alongside Rep. Casten to incentivize automakers towards better performance standards.
