Angelo Jackson Mendiver, a former campus security supervisor at Arvin High School in Bakersfield, has been sentenced to two years in prison. The sentencing follows his involvement in conspiring to manufacture and deal explosive materials, mailing explosive devices, and making false statements to FBI agents. U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced the sentencing.

Court documents reveal that Mendiver used an Instagram account to sell explosives and worked with a male juvenile from a Bakersfield high school to complete transactions and mail explosives across state lines. In messages exchanged on Instagram, Mendiver shared images and videos of homemade explosive devices with the juvenile, advising caution due to their dangerous nature.

A federal search warrant executed on June 1, 2023, led to the discovery of 536 pounds of uncontained explosives at Mendiver's residence, posing significant safety risks. An additional 440 pounds were found at the juvenile's residence. Both locations contained items used for making explosives.

Mendiver falsely claimed to FBI agents that he was not involved in selling explosives or collaborating with others in such activities.

The case involving the juvenile co-conspirator is being managed by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation was conducted by the FBI with support from the Bakersfield Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen A. Escobar prosecuted the case.
