City of Sacramento issued the following announcement on Jan 7.
The City of Sacramento on Feb. 1 is changing when trash and recycling will be collected for many of its customers in an effort to make collection routes more efficient.
According to the City’s Recycling and Solid Waste Division, 60 percent of the City’s customers — or about 85,000 people — will be affected.
“Every district will have constituents who are impacted by this re-route,” said the City’s Integrated Waste Compliance Manager Erin Treadwell.
The change comes as Sacramento experiences population growth and is required by the State “to provide organics recycling collection services” starting in 2022.
Recycling and Solid Waste staff are giving people a few tips for seeing if their collection day is changing and remembering their new day or week.
People can sign up for text message reminders by downloading the “SacRecycle” mobile phone app or check their address here to see if they will be affected by the change. They also can call City customer service by dialing 3-1-1.
Treadwell said that word of mouth also can help make the change easier. “Spread the word to your neighbors,” she said. “Set your cans out at 6 a.m., especially if you have a new collection day.”
City staff have also been informing and reminding people citywide by publishing emails, social media reminders and television, print and radio advertisements.
Recycling and Solid Waste provides garbage, recycling, yard waste collection and street sweeping to more than 130,000 residential customers in the City of Sacramento.
