Rep. Doris Matsui, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th District since 2005, recently shared her thoughts and activities on social media. Matsui, born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and a University of California, Berkeley graduate, is known for her active involvement in legislative matters and community engagement.
On February 9, 2025, Rep. Matsui expressed concerns about political figures attempting to undermine government and democracy. She stated: "Donald Trump is trying to convince us that there is nothing we can do to stop him, Elon Musk, and others from recklessly dismantling our government and democracy. I know you’re not accepting that — and neither am I." Matsui invited constituents to join her for a virtual town hall scheduled for February 10.
On February 11, 2025, she highlighted the significance of California's academic institutions in global biomedical research. She remarked: "California’s academic institutions are at the forefront of biomedical research across the world and they play a pivotal role in the drug to market pipeline." Matsui also mentioned joining fellow California delegates urging the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to cease what she termed as illegal cuts to indirect costs.
Continuing her focus on local governance and collaboration, on February 12, 2025, Rep. Matsui discussed a recent meeting with Elk Grove city officials. She noted: "As we enter a new year, I met with the Mayor, Vice Mayor, and senior staff of @CityofElkGrove to discuss their priorities." Matsui praised Elk Grove as an example of innovative local government ideas.
