California Assembly Republicans are slamming Gov. Gavin Newsom for vaccination rollout data errors.
“With all the in-state innovation at Gavin Newsom’s disposal, it's unbelievable to once again see failures blamed on "data" or "tech issues," the California Assembly Republicans posted on Twitter. “Data/tech issues are just Sacramento code for incompetence.”
Newsom failed to meet his goal of administering a million doses of COVID-19 vaccine within 10 days, prompting him to push California’s county officials to hasten vaccination efforts or risk having the providers’ supplies cut off, according to a report released by the Los Angeles Times. But county officials have said the state's numbers aren't accurate.
“We’ve been pointing out that their data is bad since the end of December,” Fresno County Supervisor Ernest Mendes said.
Mendes further said that after being forced for a more transparent data collection, the state has published a dashboard to display dosage reports in all of California.
Nevertheless, the dashboard’s accuracy was flawed according to Yolo County’s public health officer Aimee Sisson.
“Neither the number received nor the number administered being reported by the state matches what we know to be true in Yolo County,” Sisson said. “Yolo County staff have been working with a state contractor to troubleshoot the discrepancies, to no avail.”
“If the state uses its current data to determine future allocations,” Sisson added. “Yolo County could be penalized for what the state sees as an administration rate of 51 percent, but is actually an administration rate of 74 percent.”
