There have been multiple leaders from various states, counties, cities, and organizations who have received firestorms of criticisms over their violations of COVID-19 restrictions, some even breaching their own orders and guidelines.
Despite these instances, amid the surge of COVID-19 cases, and just days after California, Oregon, and Washington issued travel advisories, an unidentified group of California lawmakers and others from Texas and Washington traveled to Hawaii to attend the annual Independent Voter Project, the Daily Caller reported.
“Fair to say that the timing isn’t great, Claremont McKenna College politics professor Jack Pitney told Politico, the publication reported. “Anybody organizing an in-person event should think carefully about the optics, particularly in California, where the governor has just sent most of the state into purple. There’s a chance this will not be received well by the general public.”
The advisory came after the spike in the number of cases in the state. The Governor called on collective efforts to fight COVID-19.
“California just surpassed a sobering threshold – one million COVID-19 cases – with no signs of the virus slowing down,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a news release. “Increased cases are adding pressure on our hospital systems and threatening the lives of seniors, essential workers and vulnerable Californians. Travel increases the risk of spreading COVID-19, and we must all collectively increase our efforts at this time to keep the virus at bay and save lives.”
