Windsor El Camino Care Center led Sacramento County as its largest nursing facility during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports.
Figures indicate the center had 178 beds on hand—72 more than the county’s average for nursing homes in the same quarter. The facility served an average of 166.7 residents daily throughout the period.
CMS assigned Windsor El Camino Care Center an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which falls short of the California nursing homes’ average of 3.2.
For the quarter, Arden Park Post Acute ranked as Sacramento County’s second largest nursing home with 177 beds available, while Bruceville Terrace – D/P SNF of Methodist Hospital was third with 171 beds set aside.
Windsor El Camino Care Center managed to avoid fines and penalties for any incidents throughout the initial quarter of 2026.
Altogether, Sacramento County housed 34 for-profit nursing homes, according to state data.
Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau reveal the national population of older adults is climbing as younger groups decline. From 2020 to 2024, individuals age 65 and up grew by 13% while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the last century, the country’s older adult segment has risen significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million as of 2024.
According to a 2021 report, nearly half of Americans in this age category—approximately 28 million people—will probably need long-term care or support. The analysis also estimates that over one-third may require nursing home interventions during their lifetimes.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
