Rep. Doris Matsui, who has represented California’s 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2005, used her social media platform on September 23, 2025, to comment on several pressing national issues including government shutdown risks, health insurance concerns, and recent developments involving broadcast regulations.

In a post from the early hours of September 23, Matsui criticized both President Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., stating: “President Trump and RFK Jr. are peddling full-on conspiracy theories and unproven pseudoscience. Listen to your doctors, not the nonsensical ramblings of a corrupt administration.”

Later that day, she warned about the looming possibility of a government shutdown and its potential impact on health insurance costs for Americans. On September 23 at 17:35 UTC, Matsui posted: “We are eight days away from the government shutting down and millions of Americans seeing their health insurance prices skyrocket. Donald Trump is driving the country towards a shutdown.”

By the evening, Matsui addressed actions by Nexstar Media Group regarding late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s show in connection with ongoing regulatory scrutiny: “Nexstar pulled Jimmy Kimmel off its stations just days after FCC Chair Carr threatened broadcasters – all while Nexstar’s multi-billion-dollar merger awaits FCC approval. Now they say they will continue to keep him off the air. The sequence is unmistakable – government pressure,”

Doris Matsui has served in Congress since succeeding Bob Matsui in 2005 and currently resides in Sacramento. Born in Poston, Arizona in 1944, she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966.
