Rep. Doris Matsui, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 7th district since 2005, used her social media platform this week to criticize legislative actions in Washington and express concern over national and constituent issues.
On December 17, Matsui posted about healthcare legislation, stating, “Instead of caring about the millions of Americans who are being forced to make impossible choices regarding their health care, Speaker Johnson is trying to jam through a sham of a bill. Let’s vote on a clean extension and avert the cliff.”
Continuing her criticism of current political leadership, Matsui commented on foreign policy decisions in another post dated December 18: “President Trump’s bad-faith march toward war betrays our values and further damages our nation’s standing in the world. We’ve seen this playbook before, and he isn’t fooling anyone. His reckless aggression puts lives at risk in service of his own personal interests.”
Later that same day, Matsui highlighted concerns about the potential expiration of enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits by sharing a story from one of her constituents: “My constituent, Natalie, a college student, has told me what she’ll face if Speaker Johnson allows the enhanced ACA tax credits to expire. In less than two weeks, she’ll be forced to choose between her dreams, her mental health, and food. And she’s just one of millions of”
Doris Matsui succeeded Bob Matsui in Congress in 2005 and has served continuously since then as the representative for California’s 7th District. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento at age 78. Matsui earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966.
