Rep. Doris Matsui, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 7th district since 2005, has recently made several public statements on social media addressing federal policy and the actions of government officials.
On January 14, 2026, Matsui announced her participation in an effort to remove the Secretary of Homeland Security. She stated, “I am joining my colleagues in introducing articles of impeachment to remove DHS Secretary Noem. She’s spearheading a lawless and incompetent campaign of cruelty in our cities, blatantly violating the Constitution, and allowing the senseless killing of our neighbors. Enough is”.
Later that day, Matsui criticized the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman’s stance on local journalism. In her post from January 14, 2026, she wrote, “FCC Chairman Carr thinks our local news outlets should be investigated for informing the public about ICE raids in their neighborhoods. This is why my Broadcast Freedom and Independence Act must be passed. We need an independent FCC that respects and honors the First Amendment.”
In another statement on January 14, 2026, Matsui addressed funding cuts to addiction and mental health programs. She commented, “Addiction and mental health programs are a vital resource in Sacramento, and across the country. They grant people a second chance, and a path to a healthy future. Donald Trump just took a chainsaw to $2 billion worth of healing and hope. This administration’s choices will get”.
Doris Matsui has been an active member of Congress since replacing Bob Matsui in 2005. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento. Matsui holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
