Rep. Doris Matsui voices concerns over cybersecurity, ICE practices, and voting rights erosion

Rep. Doris Matsui, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 7th district since 2005, has used her social media platform to address several national issues, including cybersecurity in education, the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and recent Supreme Court decisions impacting voting rights.

On May 8, 2026, Matsui commented on a cyberattack affecting students during finals week: “I am closely monitoring the Canvas hack that disrupted thousands of college students’ finals week. Cyberattacks on schools and public institutions are becoming more frequent and more sophisticated. Protecting students, educators, and sensitive information must be a top”.

Later that day, she criticized ICE following reports of excessive force: “ICE needs to be torn down. Wrongfully detaining a 19-year-old with excessive force is not an isolated incident. It is part of a documented pattern of violence and intimidation by Trump’s rogue paramilitary force. ICE has killed innocent people, torn families apart and”.

On May 9, Matsui addressed concerns about democracy and voting rights: “We are watching our democracy erode in real time in the wake of our politically compromised Supreme Court’s decision to gut the Voting Rights Act. The racially motivated attacks on democracy in Tennessee and Virginia have one goal: to gerrymander minority communities out of”.

Doris Matsui was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
