Rep. Doris Matsui, who represents California’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform this week to highlight local efforts addressing food insecurity in Sacramento and Elk Grove.
On November 5, 2025, Matsui expressed gratitude toward a Sacramento-based organization: “Thank you to River City Food Bank for all you do to make sure our most vulnerable Sacramentans are fed and have access to crucial resources. Your steadfast and compassionate approach lifts our entire community up, especially in uncertain times. It was an honor to join you today”.
Later that day, she drew a contrast between local initiatives and federal actions: “While Trump and Republicans spend another day choosing to let children go hungry our region is stepping up. Today, I joined @ElkGroveCA Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, Councilmember Rod Brewer, and our fellow community members at Elk Grove Food Bank Services to distribute food to our”.
On November 6, Matsui continued her criticism of federal delays regarding nutrition assistance programs: “While the Trump administration drags their feet and families are left waiting for SNAP benefits, our community is standing together to make sure our neighbors get the support they need. Thank you to @ElkGroveCA Food Bank Services, Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, and all of the”.
Doris Matsui has served as a member of Congress since 2005 after succeeding her late husband Bob Matsui. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento. Matsui holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley (source: FACTS 1–4).
