Rep. Doris Matsui, who has represented California’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, recently shared several messages on social media highlighting community, history, and unity.
On February 18, Matsui marked Lunar New Year with a message focused on family and tradition: “Lunar New Year is, at its heart, about family. It’s about honoring those who came before us. May the year of the fire horse ahead bring health, prosperity, and joy to you and your families. Happy Lunar New Year!”
Later that day, she emphasized the importance of local investment and community identity through work being done on Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento: “Now more than ever, the work being done here on Stockton Boulevard matters—because it tells a quintessential Sacramento story. Stockton Boulevard represents Sacramento. It shows us that investing in people benefits everyone. It’s a model for unity and a vision for a future” (posted February 18).
On February 19, Matsui expressed gratitude toward the Sacramento County Office of Education for an event recognizing Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during World War II and denied their diplomas: “Thank you to the Sacramento County Office of Education for hosting such a powerful and meaningful ceremony for Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during World War II and denied their diplomas. We are once again living in a moment where fear is being used to divide people.”
