Rep. Doris Matsui, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 7th district since 2005, used her Twitter account to criticize former President Donald Trump and respond to recent events, including a mass shooting in San Diego.

On May 18, 2026, Matsui wrote: “Trumps tariffs, his needless war, and cuts to healthcare are costing Americans every day. Instead of thinking about you, he’s going to force taxpayers to cut another check to him and his cronies. This time? It’s a $1.7 billion fund paid for by the American people to”.

Later that day, she addressed a violent incident at a religious center: “The deadly mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego is heartbreaking. Innocent lives were taken in a place where families and neighbors gathered in faith, peace and community. I am mourning with our Muslim neighbors and everyone carrying the pain of this tragedy. No one”.

On May 19, Matsui continued her criticism of Trump: “While everyday Americans are emptying their pockets just to survive, he’s making sure his corrupt friends and insurrectionists get paid with YOUR money. When he says he doesn’t care about you, believe him.”

Doris Matsui has served as the congressional representative for California’s 7th District since succeeding Bob Matsui in 2005. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento. Matsui earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966.
