Rep. Doris Matsui, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district since 2005, recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from Mother’s Day wishes to criticism of federal food assistance policy and rising inflation.
On May 10, Matsui posted a holiday message: “I am wishing all a peaceful and fabulous Mother’s Day! https://t.co/FRsTEvqsFZ”.
A day later, on May 11, she criticized the Trump administration’s approach to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), stating: “The Trump administration thinks taking food away from struggling families is something to brag about. Now they’re jamming through legislation that locks in $187 billion in SNAP cuts while creating wasteful, unnecessary bureaucratic barriers for people already in dire need.”
On May 12, Matsui addressed economic concerns, highlighting the impact of inflation on American households: “Inflation is rising at an egregious rate. Gas prices are up 28.4%. Energy costs have surged 17.9% nationally, and food prices keep climbing while families struggle to pay their bills and keep food on the table. A basic quality of life has simply become unsustainable for millions.”
Doris Matsui succeeded Bob Matsui in Congress in 2005 and has served continuously since then as the representative for California’s 7th District. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento at age 78. Matsui earned her BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966.
