Doris Matsui, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district since 2005, has recently shared her views on healthcare policy and its implications through a series of tweets. Born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently residing in Sacramento, Matsui has been vocal about issues concerning healthcare access and misinformation.
On May 14, 2025, Matsui tweeted “23 hrs in and Republicans are, again, trying to defund @PPFA. They are hiding behind bad faith claims that it’s about abortion funding, which Medicaid already bans. This is about stripping essential health care from millions in underserved communities.” She highlighted how these actions could affect individuals like Novelyn.
Later that day at 20:25 UTC, she posted another tweet “26hrs in, and Republicans were focused on misinformation, bigotry, and nonsense. They want to make you weary of your neighbors, and they will say whatever they can to convince you that stealing your healthcare is in your best interest. This is pathetic.” In this statement, Matsui criticized what she described as tactics used by some politicians to undermine public trust.
In a subsequent tweet at 21:38 UTC on the same day, Matsui shared a personal story regarding Medicaid’s impact on individuals with special health needs. She stated “Medicaid is a lifeline for children with special health needs, like my amazing friend Nicholas. Nicholas was diagnosed with TWO rare diseases when he was a toddler…” emphasizing the importance of Medicaid for those with critical health conditions.
Doris Matsui’s educational background includes graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a BA degree.
