Doris Matsui, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district, expressed her views on recent political events through a series of tweets. Matsui has been serving in Congress since 2005, succeeding Bob Matsui. Born in Poston, Arizona, she now resides in Sacramento and holds a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.

On March 5, 2025, Rep. Doris Matsui criticized a presidential address for its tone and impact. She stated: “Never has a president used a joint address to be cruel to the very people he is sworn to serve and protect. A President’s words hold weight — and have the power to crush. True leadership uses that power to uplift. This is shameful.”

In another tweet posted shortly after on March 5, 2025, Matsui commented on former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding free speech and media relations: “Donald Trump claims ‘free speech is back’ while he works to censor dissent and bully our media with baseless attacks. We know he likes a news outlet he can control — and hates when the American people seek the truth.”

Later that day, Rep. Matsui addressed economic concerns related to domestic supply chains in connection with her work on the CHIPS Act: “As co-author of the CHIPS Act, I know well that securing our domestic supply chain is an economic and national security imperative. Getting rid of CHIPS would be catastrophic. We cannot and will not put up a white flag on global innovation leadership.”
