Rep. Doris Matsui, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 7th district since 2005, has recently posted a series of critical statements on her official social media account regarding major national policy decisions and corporate actions.

On March 20, 2026, Matsui criticized the approval of a significant media merger, stating: “The approval of the Nexstar-Tegna merger is an outrageous abuse of authority. It throws out limits designed to protect local journalism and viewpoint diversity. It hands Nexstar Media Group, a single conglomerate, unprecedented control over what millions of Americans see and”.

Later that same day, she addressed federal policy on artificial intelligence regulation: “Through Trump’s AI Executive Order and now National AI Policy Framework, the administration has been bending over backwards to strip states of the ability to enact commonsense AI safeguards—all while there are no meaningful federal protections in place.

Doris Matsui succeeded Bob Matsui in Congress in 2005 and continues to represent her Sacramento-based district. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor’s degree in 1966. At age 78, she remains active both legislatively and publicly through her communications channels.
