U.S. Representative Doris Matsui, who has represented California’s 7th district in Congress since 2005, used her social media platform on October 8, 2025, to criticize Republican positions on health care and government funding. Matsui, who resides in Sacramento and has served in Congress since replacing Bob Matsui in 2005, posted a series of statements addressing health care affordability and the impact of a potential government shutdown.
In her first post of the day, Matsui expressed concern about rising health care costs, stating: “Thank you, @CoveredCA, for joining me to sound the alarm. The numbers don’t lie—without action, health care costs will soar. Republicans’ refusal to extend the ACA tax credits is a direct attack on our community. We will keep fighting to make sure every Sacramentan can afford https://t.co/93If7gA4yA” (October 8, 2025).
Later, she addressed the ongoing threat of a government shutdown, specifically referencing military pay: “Republicans are so committed to continuing their reckless shutdown that Speaker Johnson is willing to let our service members go without pay. Hurting our heroes isn’t leverage, it’s disgraceful. https://t.co/z1A6iMasMo” (October 8, 2025).
Matsui concluded her public remarks by criticizing Republican strategies on health care and urging a return to legislative work: “Republicans are in disarray. Turns out “take away health care and double people’s premiums” doesn’t play well with the American people. Time to stop the chaos and get back to work. https://t.co/FLazjnyNC4” (October 8, 2025).
Doris Matsui was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently lives in Sacramento. She earned her BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966.
