Rep. Doris Matsui, who represents California’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media account on September 30, 2025 to criticize Republican lawmakers over a potential government shutdown and its impact on health care premiums.
In a post at 20:05 UTC, Matsui wrote: “Our job is to legislate. But as the clock ticks toward a shutdown, Republicans have left town.
Democrats are here, ready to prevent premiums from spiking and safeguard critical care, while Republicans hide from their duties.”
Later that evening at 21:13 UTC, she called for public attention to ongoing legislative efforts by Democrats: “Tune in now as we spend all day fighting to protect your health care and calling for Republicans to come back to Washington to do their job.”
By 22:59 UTC, Matsui intensified her criticism of Republican policies and warned of immediate consequences for American families: “Republicans have manufactured a health care crisis. Their policies will more than double premiums for millions of families. And now, with hours until a shutdown, they are nowhere to be found.
Democrats are here fighting to keep costs down and protect your health care.”
Doris Matsui has served in Congress since replacing Bob Matsui in 2005 and currently resides in Sacramento. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in 1966.
