Rep. Doris Matsui, who has represented California’s 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2005, recently used her social media platform to address issues affecting small businesses and military families in Sacramento.
On October 9, 2025, Matsui highlighted the resilience of local business owners on Stockton Boulevard: “Every storefront on Stockton Boulevard tells a story—of hard work, of family, of perseverance. It’s a place where diverse cultures intersect. A place where generations of small business owners work hard every day to lift up their community. I won’t stand by and let Republicans https://t.co/PW5pfb8YcP”.
Later that same day, she criticized House Speaker Johnson for his response to concerns raised by military families: “In the face of pleas from the spouse of an active-duty military member living paycheck to paycheck with children who rely on life-saving medication, Speaker Johnson continues to point fingers at Democrats. That’s not leadership. Speaker Johnson, do your job—bring back the House” (October 9, 2025).
On October 10, 2025, Matsui drew attention to Black-owned businesses in Florin Square and warned about potential consequences if enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act are allowed to expire: “Florin Square is in the heart of South Sacramento—home to vibrant Black-owned small businesses. Businesses like theirs are already juggling rising costs and tight margins. If Republicans let the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits expire, premiums could double. Doris Matsui was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in 1966. Since succeeding Bob Matsui in Congress two decades ago, she has focused on issues affecting her district’s diverse communities and small business landscape.
