Rep. Doris Matsui, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district since 2005, posted several messages on her social media account on April 3, 2026, addressing topics from holiday wishes to gun violence and federal spending.

In a message recognizing Passover, Matsui wrote: “May this season of renewal bring your families peace and offer a time to reflect upon the story of freedom and liberation. Wishing you a meaningful Passover!” (April 3, 2026).

Later that day, she reflected on the anniversary of a tragic event in Sacramento: “Four years ago, Sacramento lost six lives to a horrific act of gun violence and far too many families are still carrying that pain. We honor the victims by refusing to accept this as normal. I helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the strongest federal gun safety” (April 3, 2026).

In another post, Matsui criticized former President Donald Trump’s fiscal policies: “Trump’s greed remains unsatisfied even after gutting nearly a trillion dollars from health care in the big ugly bill. Now he wants $1.5 trillion to fund his illegal war. I remain a firm HELL NO on any funding being taken away from the resources everyday Americans rely on to” (April 3, 2026).

Doris Matsui has served in Congress since succeeding Bob Matsui in 2005 and is known for her work on issues affecting Sacramento and broader national policy.
She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento.
Matsui graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966.
