Rep. Doris Matsui, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district since 2005, recently shared a series of tweets addressing significant historical and current issues. Born in Poston, Arizona, in 1944 and currently residing in Sacramento, Matsui is an experienced legislator with a degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

On February 20, 2025, Rep. Matsui reflected on the anniversary of Executive Order 9066 with a tweet: “Today marks 83 years since Executive Order 9066 displaced and incarcerated over 120,000 Japanese Americans, including my family.” She emphasized that “#DayOfRemembrance stands as a stark reminder that we cannot afford to be complacent,” while expressing concern about what she perceives as efforts by the Trump Administration to “create a culture of fear.”

The following day, on February 21, 2025, Matsui tweeted about potential cuts to federal funding for food assistance programs: “If Republicans get their way, they will cut federal funding for food assistance programs that are critical for children and seniors—all to give tax breaks to the most well-off and well-connected.” She highlighted her meeting with Meals on Wheels representatives to discuss the impact these cuts could have on their programs.

On February 22, 2025, Rep. Matsui announced funding achievements for public transportation in Sacramento through her Twitter account: “I fought hard to secure a $9.5 million RAISE grant and $1 million in federal funding to help bring @RideSacRT Dos Rios Light Rail station to life.” The new station aims to improve access for River District residents by facilitating travel for work and other essential activities.
