Doris Matsui, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district, has recently expressed her concerns over several critical issues through social media. Her statements reflect on healthcare access in rural America, Medicaid eligibility for adults with disabilities, and the necessity of expanding internet access to underserved communities.
On May 14, 2025, Matsui highlighted the importance of healthcare facilities in rural areas by stating that “Hospitals and clinics are lifelines—especially in rural America where there are challenges to health care access.” She warned that proposed cuts to Medicaid could severely impact ambulance services and lead to the closure of essential medical facilities.
In another post on May 15, 2025, Matsui addressed Medicaid eligibility issues affecting adults with disabilities. She noted that “Two thirds of adults with disabilities are NOT eligible under Medicaid’s primary disability pathway,” highlighting the case of Patricia, a constituent who relies on Medicaid due to multiple mental health diagnoses.
Later that day, Matsui turned her attention to digital connectivity. She emphasized that “Connecting our military families, rural communities, and seniors to the internet isn’t a luxury,” advocating for expanded internet access as a necessary policy rather than a means for tax reductions for affluent individuals.
Doris Matsui has been serving in Congress since 2005 after succeeding Bob Matsui. Born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and residing in Sacramento, she holds a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
