Rep. Doris Matsui, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 7th district since 2005, addressed several national issues in a series of posts on April 1, 2026.
In one post published at 02:10 UTC, Matsui commented on a recent court decision involving former President Donald Trump and public media organizations. She stated, “The court saw this for what it was: Trump tried to punish NPR and PBS for coverage he didn’t like. That is unlawful retaliation and it violates the First Amendment. I’ll always stand up for public media, local journalism, and the freedom of the press.”
Later that day at 19:50 UTC, Matsui announced new federal funding for a community project in her district. She wrote, “I am proud to have secured $2 million dollars in federal funding for the Mosaic Village in West Sacramento. For people facing homelessness, addiction, or trauma, support cannot come in pieces. It has to come together holistically. Mosaic Village will do exactly that—bringing”
In another post at 21:34 UTC on April 1st, Matsui reflected on her personal history while criticizing recent actions by former President Trump regarding constitutional rights. She said, “When I was born, my family had nothing. Not even our freedom. Now Trump is pressuring the Supreme Court to gut the 14th Amendment and decide who gets to be American. That includes families like mine. This is absolutely unacceptable and I will fight against this every step”
Doris Matsui was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento at age 78. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in 1966.
