Rep. Doris Matsui, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district since 2005, reflected on recent and past events in a series of posts on January 6 and 7, 2026.
In a post from January 6, Matsui paid tribute to a fellow lawmaker: “Doug LaMalfa was a force for Northern California. He brought committed expertise to some of the most important issues facing our communities, especially forestry and water, and he never stopped pushing for solutions. While we often disagreed, we never disagreed on the core”.
Later that day, Matsui shared her thoughts on the anniversary of the January 6 Capitol attack: “As I reflect on the events of January 6, 2021, I remember the hours my colleagues and I spent hiding from a violent mob—and in those moments, I was thinking about you, the American people. What we witnessed that day caused many to question the integrity of our democracy and the”.
On January 7, she posted about an event honoring law enforcement: “Today, we gathered with the families of Capitol Police officers who put their lives on the line to protect us on January 6th, 2021. This gathering should serve as a reminder to the American people what integrity and adherence to a sworn oath looks like. A democracy is only as”.
Doris Matsui succeeded Bob Matsui in Congress in 2005 and has represented California’s 7th District since then. Born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently residing in Sacramento at age 78, Matsui graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
