Doris Matsui, a long-serving U.S. Congress representative for California’s 7th District since 2005, has expressed her concerns on social media regarding recent legislative proposals by the House GOP and offered a message of appreciation for mothers.
On May 10, Matsui shared her apprehensions about the potential impact of the GOP’s budget plans on healthcare coverage. She stated that “The math is crystal clear — @HouseGOP’s budget plans will result in millions losing their health coverage. They will raise costs for working families. They will leave kids, parents, seniors, and people with disabilities without the care they need.”
In another post dated May 11, she extended warm wishes to mothers across Sacramento and beyond on Mother’s Day. Her tweet read: “#HappyMothersDay to all of the moms and mother figures in the Sacramento region and across the country who provide us with love, inspiration and support.”
Continuing her critique of Republican policies on May 13, Matsui commented on a budget bill introduced by Republicans overnight. She criticized its implications stating that “Republicans dropped their budget bill in the dead of night…it guts Medicaid, rolls back environmental protections, and even sabotages national security.” She vowed to continue opposing these measures as necessary.
Doris Matsui was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a BA. She currently resides in Sacramento.
