Rep. Doris Matsui, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 7th district since 2005, has recently posted several statements on her social media account addressing public health policy, higher education affordability, and foreign policy decisions by the Trump Administration.
On January 5, 2026, Matsui criticized the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for recent changes to childhood vaccination guidelines. She stated: “The CDC has bypassed expert guidance and all other procedural norms to unilaterally dismantle the children’s recommended vaccine schedule. Now, young children and adults will see increased exposure to: RSV Hepatitis A & B Dengue Meningitis Rotavirus Covid-19 “.
Later that same day, Matsui addressed concerns about student debt and access to higher education. She wrote: “Higher education should never be out of reach or require taking on crippling debt. Yet for millions of young people, borrowing is the only way to pursue their education while juggling rising costs and fewer opportunities to get ahead. There are millions of borrowers who are”.
On January 6, 2026, Matsui commented on domestic economic pressures in comparison with U.S. foreign policy actions in Venezuela under the Trump Administration: “While millions of Americans find themselves being asked to pay more for less health care, education, and energy—the Trump Administration has chosen to focus on an unlawful regime change in Venezuela. Trump and his cronies clearly care more about profits for oil companies than the”.
Doris Matsui was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in 1966. After replacing Bob Matsui in Congress in 2005, she has represented California’s 7th district continuously since then.
