Rep. Doris Matsui, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 7th district since 2005, posted a series of tweets on January 8 and 9, 2026, addressing recent developments in healthcare policy and international agreements.
On January 8, Matsui highlighted the impact of rising healthcare costs during a committee meeting. She wrote, “In committee today, I looked at what happens when care gets too expensive: people delay it, skip it, and suffer. That’s why today’s vote to expand premium tax credits matters. Coverage is the difference between getting help or going without.”
Later that day, she commented on legislative progress regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Matsui stated on January 8: “I have been pushing for an extension on the ACA enhanced premium tax credits from day one. Some House Republicans finally listened. Today, Speaker Johnson was forced to bring an extension to the floor for a vote, and it passed. This is what effective leadership looks like.”
On January 9, Matsui addressed foreign policy actions by former President Donald Trump: “Yesterday, President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from 66 international organizations and agreements, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the international treaty that forms the basis for all international negotiations on”
Doris Matsui has represented California’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Bob Matsui in 2005. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently resides in Sacramento. Matsui earned her BA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966.
