Rep. Doris Matsui, who has represented California’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2005, addressed a range of issues affecting her constituents in a series of posts on April 9, 2026.
In one post published at 18:43 UTC, Matsui raised concerns about federal support for wildfire preparedness, stating: “California is closing in on wildfire season. And Trump is gutting the critical research and resources the @ForestService provides to keep Sacramentans informed and safe. I will not stay silent while Trump recklessly undermines the wildfire readiness and forest protection”.
Later that day at 22:27 UTC, Matsui highlighted pay disparities impacting Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) women: “As a Japanese American woman, AANHPI Equal Pay Day is personal to me. AANHPI women are not a monolith and one broad number can hide deeper pay gaps facing many women across our communities. Equal pay means every woman counts. #AANHPIEqualPay”.
At 23:34 UTC, Matsui praised local organizations supporting Sacramento communities: “Sam Greenlee and Alchemist CDC have always shown up for Sacramento. When families need food. When small businesses need support. When our community needs connection. Now, the Alchemist Public Market will bring all of that together in one place—transforming the River District”.
Matsui’s comments come as California prepares for another potentially severe wildfire season and amid ongoing discussions about gender-based wage disparities within minority communities.
Doris Matsui succeeded Bob Matsui in Congress in 2005 and has resided in Sacramento since then. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966.
