Rep. Doris Matsui, who represents California’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media addressing Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the ceasefire in Gaza, and the recent government shutdown. Matsui, a Sacramento resident and member of Congress since 2005, used her platform to highlight issues affecting her constituents and broader national concerns.
On October 13, 2025, Matsui marked Indigenous Peoples’ Day by stating, “This #IndigenousPeoplesDay, I’m proud to celebrate the rich cultures and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples here in the Sacramento region and across the country. I’ll continue working side by side with our Tribal Nations to uplift their voices, protect their rights and https://t.co/SgNgSSPEQZ”.
Later the same day, Matsui commented on the ongoing ceasefire in Gaza, writing, “The ceasefire underway in Gaza has brought long-awaited hope—the remaining hostages reunited with their families and a surge of humanitarian aid delivered to the Palestinian people who have endured unbearable loss. There can be no delay in delivering additional aid, restoring”.
On October 14, 2025, Matsui addressed the government shutdown and its impact on health care costs: “Republicans have shut down the government rather than lower your health care costs. People across our community are already getting their health care rate notices and I want to hear from you. Click the link and share how rising premiums are impacting you and your family. https://t.co/qFsq9RcBYj”.
Matsui has represented California’s 7th District in Congress since 2005, succeeding Bob Matsui. She was born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and has lived in Sacramento for many years. Matsui graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
