Rep. Doris Matsui, who represents California’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media this week addressing congressional procedures, federal funding for infrastructure projects, and political values.

On October 16, 2025, Matsui commented on a delay in swearing in Adelita Grijalva to the House of Representatives. She wrote, “It’s been weeks since Adelita Grijalva was duly elected, yet Speaker Johnson still refuses to swear her in. Why? Because she’d be the 218th signature needed to release the Epstein files. Do your job, Mr. Speaker. Swear her in.”

Two days later, on October 17, 2025, Matsui criticized a recent White House decision concerning Army Corps projects: “The White House just froze $11 billion in Army Corps projects targeting blue states. I’ve worked side-by-side with the Army Corps and secured billions of federal dollars to keep the Sacramento region safe from catastrophic floods – devoid of who was in White House. That’s how”

In another post dated October 18, 2025, Matsui addressed former President Donald Trump and spoke about American democracy and community action: “Today we reminded Donald Trump, loud and clear, that in this country WE HAVE NO KINGS. We don’t worship power — WE BUILD IT TOGETHER. In our neighborhoods. On our streets. In our unions. That’s who we are, that’s Sacramento, and I’ll always have your back.”

Doris Matsui has represented California’s 7th District since replacing Bob Matsui in Congress in 2005 and is known for securing federal support for local infrastructure initiatives such as flood protection around Sacramento (source: Doris Matsui biography). Born in Poston, Arizona in 1944 and currently residing in Sacramento at age 78, she is an alumna of the University of California, Berkeley.
