The City of Sacramento’s Office of Cannabis Management announced on Apr. 24 that it will host the inaugural CORE Summit, a two-day event set for May 6–7 at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. The summit aims to bring together cannabis business owners, industry professionals, advocates, and community members under the theme “Building Legacy, Restoring Opportunity.”

The event is designed to foster conversations about equity in Sacramento’s local cannabis industry and provide resources for equitable participation. Sessions will cover topics such as licensing, compliance, workforce development, and entrepreneurial pathways within the cannabis sector.

“This summit is intended to support conversations around equity in the local cannabis industry,” said Al Romero-Gibu, who leads the Office of Cannabis Management. “By convening careholders and resource partners, we aim to connect participants with tools and information and expand access to opportunities.”

Attendees will have opportunities to engage with organizations offering technical assistance and business support. The summit program includes speakers from government agencies, advocacy groups, and industry experts such as Eugene Hillsman from the California Department of Cannabis Control; Toni Forge, Esq., an attorney specializing in cannabis; and Stephanie Shepard from The Last Prisoner Project.

The CORE Summit is part of ongoing efforts by Sacramento’s Cannabis Opportunity Reinvestment and Equity (CORE) Program. This initiative seeks to reduce barriers for individuals impacted by past enforcement policies related to cannabis.

Registration is free for current CORE participants. Equity participants outside Sacramento can purchase tickets for $25 while general admission costs $50. More details are available on the City’s website.
