The City of Sacramento announced on Apr. 17 that its Incident Management Team responded to 530 calls for service last week, engaging people experiencing homelessness and supporting compliance with city laws. From April 6-12, the team addressed issues at 592 unique locations throughout the city.
The announcement comes as Sacramento prepared for a series of Earth Day events. The Department of Community Response (DCR) coordinated efforts to support safe and organized volunteer activities across multiple sites.
On April 11, residents, families, and community groups participated in neighborhood cleanups and landscaping projects in parks and along waterways. DCR staff provided site-specific briefings to event leads on best practices for working near encampments, including guidance on safely engaging individuals who may be experiencing behavioral health challenges. During the events, DCR outreach teams visited various locations to offer real-time support as needed.
Compared to previous years, staff observed fewer encampments and fewer individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness at event sites. This was attributed to ongoing coordination between city teams aimed at supporting community events while maintaining a service-focused approach in public spaces.
Key activity data from the reporting period included handling service requests through the city’s 311 system, providing outreach and placements for those seeking shelter, monitoring shelter availability as of April 14, delivering environmental services, and offering additional information through official channels.
