WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 30, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement on the Supreme Court decision in 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis.

“Today’s decisions are discriminatory and a step back from the inclusive and equal country that America can and should be,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “It has long been the law that it is unacceptable for businesses to turn away people because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The conservative justices on the Supreme Court decided to reverse this precedent and restrict the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. This is a direct affront to our long-standing nondiscrimination laws. Every individual deserves the freedom to access the services they need without fear.”

“This week, conservative justices on the Supreme Court—forced upon the rest of the country by a decade of GOP court-packing tactics—have demonstrated that ensuring equality in our country is not one of their priorities. I will continue to stand with the LGBTQIA+ community and will keep fighting to ensure that people across our country can live their lives without discrimination.”
